Paris 2024 Olympic medals unveiled, featuring fragments of the Eiffel Tower’s original iron

The Summer Olympic Games soon to come will present unique medals. Each will have a piece of the Eiffel Tower’s iron. Joachim Roncin of the Paris Games organizing committee leads this effort. He wants to blend the Eiffel Tower, a symbol known worldwide, with the awards.

After much discussion, the team decided to make the medals unforgettable by adding a part of this famous landmark. The Eiffel Tower underwent renovations in the 20th century, preserving some metal pieces. These pieces will enrich the Paris 2024 Olympics medals.

Officials approved the idea, making a creative dream come true. Roncin highlighted the importance of this decision. Jean-Francois Martins, who runs the Eiffel Tower company, said this integration adds historic value to the medals. It also honors Pierre de Coubertin, the Olympics’ founder, connecting him to Gustave Eiffel, the tower’s architect.

Chaumet, a renowned jeweler, is designing the medals. This is a first for Olympic medals. The Hotel de la Monnaie, which also produced the 1924 Olympics medals, will manufacture them. The medals’ design features Nike, the victory goddess, with the Acropolis and the Eiffel Tower in the background. Moreover, the Paralympic medals will offer a special view of the Eiffel Tower and include Paris 2024 in braille. This gesture honors the braille system’s French inventor, showing the games’ inclusive spirit.
