AFF Cup 2024 to Take Place from November 23 to December 21, Draw Ceremony to Be Held in Hanoi on May 21
The draw ceremony for the AFF Cup 2024 groups is scheduled to take place on May 21 in Hanoi. The familiar tournament of Southeast Asian football will be newly named the ASEAN Cup 2024.
This year’s tournament is expected to run from November 23 to December 21. Ten participating teams will be divided into 2 groups, playing in a round-robin format to select the top two teams from each group for the semifinals. Before the group stage, the two lowest-ranked teams in the region will play a playoff to compete for a spot in the tournament.
The Thailand national team is the current champion of the tournament and also holds the record for the most championships, having won in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2022. The Singapore national team has won four times in 1998, 2004, 2006, and 2012. The Vietnam national team has two championships in 2008 and 2018. The Malaysia national team won once in 2010.
In the last two AFF Cups, the Vietnam national team lost to the Thailand national team in the semifinals and finals. This year, the Vietnam national team aims for a medal at the AFF Cup 2024.
