For the first time in its history, the Vietnam National Cup 2023/2024 will utilize Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology during its quarterfinal matches. This significant advancement in officiating was announced by the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), signaling a new era of accuracy and fairness in the country’s football.
The National Cup, set to resume during the national holidays on April 30-May 1, promises some exciting matches. The quarterfinal lineup includes notable pairings such as Hanoi FC versus Da Nang, Thanh Hoa against Hai Phong, Nam Dinh taking on Binh Duong, and The Cong Viettel facing off against PVF CAND.
According to the latest information from the VPF, VAR technology will be employed in two specific matches: the Hanoi FC vs. Da Nang game at 19:15 on April 28, and the Nam Dinh vs. Binh Duong match at 18:00 on April 30. The introduction of VAR is a milestone for the National Cup, enhancing the credibility and integrity of the competition.
Previously, VAR had been introduced and gradually integrated into the V-League matches, supporting referees in making more accurate decisions and promoting fairness in the league.
Following the quarterfinals of the National Cup, the V-League 2023/2024 will resume in early May with the exciting 16th round matches. Currently, after 15 rounds, Nam Dinh leads the championship race with 32 points, four points ahead of second-placed CAHN, indicating a tight competition for the title.
The integration of VAR in the National Cup not only elevates the standard of Vietnamese football but also aligns the national tournament with global officiating standards, promising a more just outcome for the teams involved.
