Host of the next AFC U23 Asian Cup identified, benefiting U23 Vietnam

AFC has announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup, despite the 2024 edition still being underway. The decision marks a significant step for both the tournament and Saudi Arabia’s football development.

The AFC has chosen Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2026 U23 Asian Cup to serve as a test run for the country’s preparations for hosting the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. The event will allow Saudi Arabia to showcase its infrastructure and organizational capabilities, ensuring a successful continental tournament the following year.

Furthermore, the AFC disclosed that this pattern of hosting the U23 Asian Cup a year before the senior Asian Cup will continue for future tournaments. This means that the country hosting the 2031 Asian Cup will also host the 2030 U23 Asian Cup, establishing a precedent for future cycles.

The 2026 U23 Asian Cup will be the second consecutive edition held in West Asia, following the 2024 edition hosted by Qatar. This decision reflects the growing prominence of the region in Asian football, as well as its ability to support large-scale international competitions.

For U23 Vietnam, Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the 2026 U23 Asian Cup offers significant advantages. The team’s strong performance in the 2024 edition has secured them a place in Pot 2 for the draw, allowing them to avoid some of the stronger teams in the group stage.

The tournament is set to take place in January 2026 and will not serve as a qualifier for the Olympics. However, it remains a crucial platform for young football talent to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience on the international stage.

With the announcement of Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2026 U23 Asian Cup, preparations for the tournament are expected to accelerate. This event will play a key role in shaping the future of Asian football, both at the youth level and beyond. The Vietnamese U23 team, along with others from across the continent, will eagerly anticipate the competition.
