In a recent development that has stirred the Vietnamese football community, Vu Van Thanh, a defender for Hanoi Police FC, has issued a heartfelt apology for his unsportsmanlike conduct during a match in the V-League 2023/2024 season.
The incident occurred during the intense Round 17 match against Quang Nam, where Van Thanh was shown a red card at the 65th minute for verbally abusing the referee. Following this, the disciplinary committee imposed a hefty fine of 10 million VND on him and suspended him from three subsequent matches.
Reflecting on his actions, Van Thanh took to his Facebook page to express his remorse. His post read, “Throughout the past day, I have deeply reflected on my behavior and received a lot of feedback. Sometimes, especially during a tense phase like now, my emotions get the better of me, leading to regrettable actions that have upset many. I sincerely apologize for my reactions. This has undoubtedly been a major lesson for me. I hope for continued support and companionship from everyone as I move forward.”
This apology comes at a critical time as Hanoi Police FC faces challenges in their campaign for the V-League title this season, having suffered two consecutive losses. Van Thanh’s suspension could significantly impact the team’s performance in the upcoming matches, considering his role as a key player in the squad.
The football community and fans have reacted with a mix of criticism and support for Van Thanh, recognizing the pressure athletes often face but emphasizing the importance of professionalism and respect on the pitch.
As the V-League 2023/2024 progresses, Hanoi Police FC will have to navigate the next few games without one of their main defenders, adding an extra layer of difficulty to their championship aspirations.
