Vietnamese football clubs will receive substantial financial rewards for participating in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/2025 from the group stage onwards, according to recent announcements from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Vietnam will have two clubs entering directly into the group stage of the AFC Champions League Two 2024/2025. These spots are reserved for the champions of the V-League 2023/2024 and the winners of the National Cup 2023/2024. In case the Viettel Army team (The Công Viettel), which does not meet the criteria, wins the National Cup, another team will replace them.
Besides the allocation of spots, the AFC has also revealed the prize money for the participating teams. Each club that qualifies for the group stage will receive a substantial sum of 300,000 USD (over 7 billion VND). This prize is significantly higher compared to the 5 billion VND awarded to the V-League champions.
The rewards will increase with wins or draws in the group stage. The team that lifts the trophy at the end of the season will receive at least 3.28 million USD (around 83 billion VND).
For the 2024/2025 season, the AFC has restructured its club competitions across the continent, resulting in higher prize money. Last season, when Hai Phong FC participated in the AFC Cup and was eliminated in the group stage, the club only received travel support money amounting to about 120,000 USD (nearly 3 billion VND), despite securing three wins and one draw.
The 2024/2025 AFC Champions League Two promises to be challenging for V-League clubs, as it includes strong teams from South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, and Australia right from the group stage. The competition’s intensity for V-League clubs is expected to be just slightly lower than that faced by Hanoi FC in the AFC Champions League 2023/2024.
The draw for the 2024/2025 AFC Cup group stage will take place on August 16, 2024.
