Cong Phuong unconcerned about starting spot on national team return

Hanoi, 30 May, 2025 – On the afternoon of May 30, Vietnam’s national football team held their first training session in preparation for their upcoming match against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The highlight of the session was the presence of Cong Phuong, who returned to the national team after a long absence.

Before the training, Cong Phuong shared: “Like all players, I always feel honored to wear the Vietnam national team jersey. I am fully aware that I need to strive and put in effort to contribute to the team.

For me, whether I start in the match against Malaysia is not important; what matters is what I can do when the opportunity arises to contribute to the team’s result.

I want to thank the fans for their continuous support. I will give my best to help the Vietnam national team achieve the desired result and bring joy to the fans.”

Cong Phuong also expressed his feelings about being called up to the national team for the first time under coach Kim Sang Sik: “I have met and talked with Coach Kim Sang Sik. Today is my first training session under his guidance.”

It is expected that the Vietnam national team will train alongside the U22 Vietnam team until June 5. If there is a lack of players for training, Coach Kim Sang Sik can call up players from the U22 team to join the senior squad.

According to the schedule, the Vietnam national team will travel to Malaysia on June 6. The team will have three days of preparation before the official match on June 10.
