U23 Vietnam starts in a special group at the AFF U23 championship 2025

Kuala Lumpur, 30 May, 2025 – On the morning of May 30, 2025, the AFF conducted the draw for the 2025 AFC U23 Championship.

To prepare for the 2025 AFC U23 Championship, which will be held in Indonesia in July, the AFF organized the group stage draw on May 30.

As a result, U23 Vietnam has been placed in Group B alongside two neighboring teams, Laos and Cambodia. This is considered a special group for U23 Vietnam, as they will face rivals from the Indochina Peninsula.

Group A consists of the host Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei, while Group C features three teams: Thailand, Myanmar, and Timor Leste. U23 Singapore will not participate. The top three teams from each group, along with the best second-placed team, will qualify for the semifinals. The 2025 AFC U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to July 31, 2025, in Indonesia.

After four editions of the tournament, U23 Vietnam is the most successful team in the competition’s history, having won the title twice consecutively. In 2022, despite the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, U23 Vietnam played courageously and won the championship by defeating Thailand 1-0 in the final.

The following year, in 2023, the red-clad team continued to assert their dominance, successfully defending their title with a thrilling penalty shootout win over Indonesia.
