Hanoi, 31 May, 2025 – During the training session on the afternoon of May 31, Cong Phuong, Duc Chien, and goalkeeper Dinh Trieu were unable to participate due to injuries.
On the same afternoon, at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) President Tran Quoc Tuan met and encouraged the national team and U22 national team ahead of their upcoming important tasks. The meeting was also attended by VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu and Head of the National Teams Department, Doan Anh Tuan.
The meeting took place as the national team was actively preparing for their match against Malaysia in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. Meanwhile, the U22 national team was focusing on the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers, and SEA Games 33.

President Tran Quoc Tuan congratulated Coach Kim Sang Sik, the coaching staff, and the four players who recently participated in the friendly match between the ASEAN All Stars and Manchester United at Bukit Jalil (Malaysia). This is also the venue for the crucial match between Vietnam and Malaysia, which could determine the ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
Emphasizing the importance of the upcoming match, the VFF President urged the entire team to focus fully, uphold unity, and put in their utmost effort. He expressed confidence that Coach Kim Sang Sik and his staff would have plans in place to handle the team’s injuries. The VFF has committed to providing the best possible conditions for the team’s preparations.
For the U22 national team, President Tran Quoc Tuan praised the significance of the three important tournaments ahead. He reminded the players of the remarkable achievements of the U22/U23 teams, such as two Southeast Asian U23 Championship titles, a runner-up finish at the U23 Asian Cup, and two consecutive gold medals at the SEA Games. He encouraged the players to maintain their confidence, boost their self-assurance, and fully utilize the well-prepared training plans that had been set in place from the start.
In the training session on May 31, Coach Kim Sang Sik did not have the full squad as the players from Binh Duong and Hanoi Police FC (CAHN) had just completed their postponed V-League 23rd round matches and would join the team later in the evening. Some key players, including Cong Phuong, Duc Chien, and goalkeeper Dinh Trieu, were undergoing rehabilitation at the hotel. Defender Thanh Chung returned to training after recovering from injury, while Dang Van Toi (from Hai Phong), who was recently added to the squad, also joined and started training with the team.
Young defender Pham Ly Duc, a new call-up to the national team, is still training with the U22 team. He shared with the media, “I am very happy to hear that I have been called up to the national team. I am waiting for instructions from the head coach and still training with the U22 team. The training plans for both teams are quite similar. No matter which team I am with, I always give my best and play with all my passion.”
