Man United legends defeat Vietnam All-Stars in Da Nang

Da Nang, 27 June, 2025 – On the evening of June 27, Manchester Red, featuring a lineup of Manchester United legends including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Michael Owen, secured a 4-2 victory over the Vietnam All-Stars in a friendly match held at Hoa Xuan Stadium.

Manchester Red started the match with several iconic names from their golden era, such as Giggs, Scholes, Owen, Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke, and Wes Brown. Meanwhile, coach Hoang Anh Tuan assembled a nostalgic and competitive Vietnam All-Stars squad, with national legends like Le Huynh Duc, Nguyen Hong Son, Nguyen Van Sy, Le Cong Vinh, and Nguyen Minh Phuong, along with current stars Nguyen Van Quyet and Nguyen Hai Long.

The visitors dominated the early stages, especially through the efforts of Michael Owen. In the 7th minute, the former England striker expertly controlled the ball inside the box before lobbing a brilliant finish over the goalkeeper to open the scoring. Twenty minutes later, Owen won a penalty after being fouled in the area and calmly converted it himself to make it 2-0 for Manchester Red.

Despite being behind, the Vietnam All-Stars created several promising chances, particularly through Van Quyet and Cong Vinh, but their finishing let them down at crucial moments.

Right after the second half began, Le Huynh Duc narrowed the gap with a clever finish that beat the Manchester Red goalkeeper. The goal lifted the spirits of the home side, who mounted more attacks through Hanoi FC’s trio of Van Quyet, Hai Long, and Tuan Hai.

However, their offensive approach left gaps at the back, which the visitors exploited. Manchester Red capitalized with two more goals before full time to extend the lead to 4-1. In the 80th minute, former striker Nguyen Viet Thang scored with a powerful diagonal shot to cut the deficit to 2-4, but time ran out before the hosts could close the gap further.

The match delivered an entertaining evening filled with nostalgic moments, football legends, and spirited play from both sides. For Vietnamese fans, it was a rare and special opportunity to witness global icons and national heroes sharing the same pitch, celebrating the love for the beautiful game.
