Ontario, 6 July, 2025 – Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh has secured her place in the women’s singles final of the 2025 Canada Open after a remarkable comeback win over Danish opponent Amalie Schulz in the semifinals.
On the morning of July 6 (Vietnam time), world No. 22 Nguyen Thuy Linh, seeded second at the Canada Open 2025, defeated world No. 69 Amalie Schulz of Denmark with a 2-1 scoreline in a thrilling semifinal battle.
Coming into this match, Thuy Linh had already endured two tough three-game matches—both comeback victories—against Wong Ling Ching (Malaysia) in the quarterfinals and Chen Su Yu (Chinese Taipei) in the Round of 16. Despite showing signs of physical fatigue, she displayed improving form, strong mental resilience, and valuable match experience.
In the opening game, the two players went neck and neck, drawing level at 21-21. However, Schulz edged out the Vietnamese star 23-21 to take the early advantage. Undeterred, Thuy Linh adjusted her tactics in the second game, accelerating her pace and dominating her opponent to claim a commanding 21-11 win, leveling the match at 1-1.
Riding the momentum, Nguyen Thuy Linh continued her aggressive and diverse attacking play in the decisive third game. She built an impressive scoring run to outclass Schulz 21-10, completing yet another comeback and sealing her place in the final after nearly an hour of intense action.
With this victory, Thuy Linh advances to the women’s singles final of the Canada Open 2025, a tournament under the BWF World Tour Super 300 series with a total prize pool of $240,000 USD (over 6 billion VND). Reaching the final guarantees her at least $9,000 USD (over 200 million VND) in prize money.
Her opponent in the final will be the winner of the other semifinal between home favorite Michelle Li (world No. 19, Canada) and Suizu Manami (world No. 35, Japan).
The impressive run in Canada marks another milestone for Nguyen Thuy Linh, further affirming her place among Asia’s top badminton talents as she aims for her first World Tour Super 300 title of the year.
