Nguyen Tien Linh bids emotional farewell to Becamex Ho Chi Minh

Ho Chi Minh, 1 August, 2025 – Striker Nguyen Tien Linh could not hold back his tears as he officially said goodbye to Becamex TP HCM (formerly Binh Duong FC) after 10 years of service.

During the team’s training session earlier today, players were asked to gather in a circle at the center of the pitch. There, Tien Linh delivered an emotional farewell speech, wiping away tears as he expressed his gratitude to teammates, coaches, and staff. Afterward, he walked up to the stands to personally thank a group of devoted fans who came to bid him farewell.

The 27-year-old forward is expected to join another southern club in the coming days, marking the next chapter of his career.

Tien Linh was born in Hai Duong in 1997 and moved with his family to Binh Duong at the age of nine. He joined the club’s youth academy in 2010 and was promoted to the first team in 2016. Over the years, he became the club’s talisman, scoring 71 goals in 147 V-League matches and twice winning the title of “Top Domestic Scorer” with 15 goals in 2018 and 13 goals in the 2024/25 season.

Despite his impressive personal achievements, Linh never lifted the V-League trophy with the club, which was in decline following their championship wins in 2014 and 2015. However, he won the 2018 National Cup and the 2016 Super Cup during his time there.

At the international level, Linh is a household name for Vietnamese football fans. Since his debut in 2015, he has been a key figure for all levels of the national teams—U19, U20, U22, U23, and the senior squad. With 25 goals in 62 appearances, he ranks third among Vietnam’s all-time top scorers, behind Le Huynh Duc (27) and Le Cong Vinh (51).

Tien Linh has been part of Vietnam’s golden generation, contributing to the ASEAN Cup victories in 2018 and 2024, as well as two SEA Games gold medals in 2019 and 2021. His individual accolades include the prestigious Vietnam Golden Ball award in 2024, along with a Silver Ball in 2022 and a Bronze Ball in 2021.

His departure is a major loss for coach Nguyen Anh Duc’s squad as they brace for the upcoming season. It follows the earlier exits of key players, including center-back Que Ngoc Hai, who left a year before his contract ended, along with several other experienced names such as Nguyen Hai Huy and Nghiem Xuan Tu.

With his next destination soon to be announced, fans eagerly await where Tien Linh will continue to write his football story.
