The match kicked off at a high tempo, with the hosts pressing forward aggressively and putting Thailand under immediate pressure. In the 4th minute, Thailand nearly took a shock lead when Moondong’s looping cross struck the crossbar. Vietnam quickly responded, with Bich Thuy and Huynh Nhu both spurning clear scoring opportunities.
The breakthrough came in the 36th minute. Huynh Nhu showcased her trademark skill on the right flank, dribbling past her marker before delivering a precise low cross for Thu Thao, who calmly tapped the ball in from close range to make it 1-0. The hosts continued to dominate until the halftime whistle but were unable to extend their advantage.
In the second half, Vietnam maintained control of possession while Thailand pushed higher in search of an equalizer. The home side had several chances to double their lead through Hai Yen, Nguyen Thi Van, and other attackers, but their finishing let them down. Defensively, coach Mai Duc Chung’s players stayed disciplined and well-organized, successfully neutralizing Thailand’s counterattacks and set-piece threats.
The match ended with Vietnam holding firm to their narrow lead, displaying both composure and resilience in a high-stakes encounter. The victory means Vietnam finishes Group A unbeaten and atop the standings, positioning themselves strongly for the knockout stage.
Vietnam’s semifinal opponent will be determined after the final round of Group B matches on August 13. The win not only boosts the team’s confidence but also reaffirms their status as one of the tournament favorites, as they continue their quest for ASEAN Cup glory on home soil.
