Viet Tri, 13 August, 2025 – On August 13, the final round of Group B matches in the ASEAN Women’s Cup 2025 took place simultaneously in Hai Phong and Phu Tho, with all three teams — the Philippines, Myanmar, and U23 Australia — still in contention for a semifinal spot, yet also at risk of elimination.
In Phu Tho, U23 Australia did exactly what was required to stay in the race, securing their most emphatic win of the tournament so far with a 9-0 thrashing of Timor Leste. The young Australian side dominated from start to finish, ensuring their goal difference remained competitive in the event of a tie.
That result placed added pressure on the decisive clash in Hai Phong between Myanmar and the Philippines, effectively turning it into a “Group B final.” With the advantage of needing only a draw to secure top spot, Myanmar adopted a disciplined counter-attacking approach that frustrated the reigning champions. The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Myanmar launched a swift counterattack, leading to a penalty which Win Theingi Tun confidently converted.
Facing elimination, the Philippines were left with the uphill task of scoring at least three goals to progress. Despite pushing forward with urgency in the second half, they could only manage a single reply in the 71st minute through Mathelus. The match ended 1-1, a result that saw the defending champions crash out of the tournament at the group stage.
With the draw, Myanmar finished as Group B winners on seven points and will face Thailand in the semifinals. U23 Australia secured second place and will meet hosts Vietnam in what promises to be a high-intensity encounter. Meanwhile, the Philippines’ title defense came to a disappointing end after failing to advance past the group stage.
