Ho Chi Minh City, 14 August, 2025 – On the afternoon of August 14, Becamex TPHCM held a grand season kick-off ceremony in Binh Duong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, marking the beginning of their 2025/2026 campaign in the national professional football system.
The event was attended by notable figures including Bui Thanh Nhan, Standing Committee Member of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Cao Van Chong, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports; Ngo Le Bang, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation; and Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex Group.
This season holds historical significance as it is the first since Binh Duong officially merged with Ho Chi Minh City on July 1, 2025. As a result, the professional football team of Becamex Group will compete under the new name Becamex Ho Chi Minh. Club President Ho Hong Thach emphasized that this administrative merger not only marks a historical milestone but also opens great opportunities for economic, cultural, and sporting development. For the football club, it represents renewed inspiration and determination to build a strong team that embodies the identity of a rising region, in step with Vietnam’s leading sports hubs.
“This will be a season of challenges and ambition,” Thach stated. “The club’s leadership has set a target of finishing in the top three of the V-League. This is not only a sporting goal but also a declaration of our determination and winning spirit, both for our fans and for the city.”
In preparation for the new season, head coach Nguyen Anh Duc has made significant adjustments to both personnel and tactics. Rather than chasing high-profile signings, the 1985-born tactician prioritized recruiting players who fit a modern football philosophy, emphasizing cohesion and tactical discipline. Key arrivals include domestic talents such as Phan Thanh Hau, Nguyen Van Anh, Le Minh Binh, and Adriano Schmidt, alongside foreign signings Hugo Alves, Oribaajo, and Milos, all expected to bring fresh energy to the squad.
While the club bids farewell to Golden Ball winner Nguyen Tien Linh and experienced players like Que Ngoc Hai and Nguyen Hai Huy, Anh Duc remains confident. “This is a new chapter in my journey, from player to coach at the club that nurtured my career. I’m grateful to the management for trusting me during this significant transition. My team and I will give our all to meet the expectations of our fans and achieve our top-three target,” he affirmed.
Following Tien Linh’s departure, defender Ngo Tung Quoc has been entrusted with the captain’s armband. Becamex TPHCM will kick off their V-League 2025/2026 campaign with a challenging away fixture against Hoang Anh Gia Lai at Pleiku Stadium on August 17, a match that will be the first test for their new identity and ambitions.
