The Cong Viettel secure victory over Becamex Ho Chi Minh City with second-half brilliance

Hanoi, 30 August, 2025 – The Cong Viettel continued their strong start to the 2025/26 LPBank V.League 1 season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Becamex Ho Chi Minh City in the third round, thanks to two superb headed goals in the second half.

At Hang Day Stadium, coach Velizar Popov’s side faced a determined opponent that set up with a deep defensive block. Throughout the first half, Viettel controlled much of the possession but struggled to break down Becamex’s compact structure. The visitors not only defended resolutely but also threatened on the counterattack with several dangerous moments that tested Viettel’s backline.

The breakthrough eventually came after the interval. With tactical adjustments from Popov, Viettel raised the tempo and focused their attacks down the flanks, particularly through Truong Tien Anh, whose precise deliveries caused constant problems for the Becamex defense. In the 57th minute, a perfectly placed cross from Tien Anh found its target in the box, where the striker timed his leap perfectly to head home and break the deadlock.

Buoyed by the opener, Viettel piled on the pressure and continued exploiting the wide areas. Just over 10 minutes later, another dangerous delivery from the right flank once again unlocked the visitors’ defense. The second headed finish was executed with power and accuracy, doubling Viettel’s advantage and effectively sealing the contest.

Despite attempts from Becamex Ho Chi Minh City to fight back, their attacking transitions lacked precision, and the hosts maintained control until the final whistle. The result underscored Viettel’s strength not only in tactical flexibility but also in their aerial dominance, with set-piece and crossing situations proving decisive.

This victory sees The Cong Viettel move to seven points after three matches, level with Hanoi Police FC but two points adrift of early leaders Ninh Binh, the only team with a perfect record so far this season. The result also highlights Viettel’s consistency in balancing attacking flair with defensive solidity, making them a serious contender in the V-League title race.

Meanwhile, for Becamex Ho Chi Minh City, the defeat exposed gaps in their ability to withstand pressure across 90 minutes. Although their first-half defensive performance was disciplined, they failed to sustain the same intensity after the break. Coach Nguyen Anh Duc will need to address these issues quickly if the club wants to meet its target of finishing among the top three this season.

With momentum on their side, Viettel will look to extend their unbeaten run when they take on their next opponent, while fans can expect more entertaining football from Popov’s high-energy and tactically versatile squad.
