Viet Tri, 3 September, 2025 – Vietnam U23 began their AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with a confident win over Bangladesh, and one of the brightest highlights was the first-ever goal for Viktor Le in national team colors.
Heading into the qualifiers, head coach Kim Sang-sik, who guided Vietnam U23 to the ASEAN U23 Championship title in July, had openly praised Viktor Le’s potential. “He is a player with big talent, but how we use him depends on the opponent and the tactics of each match. The coaching staff is working to maximize his ability and choose the right moments for him to shine,” Kim said before the opener.
This is the second consecutive tournament Viktor Le has worked under Kim Sang-sik. At the ASEAN U23 Championship, he mainly featured as a substitute and did not score. But his progress in adapting to the team’s playing style has gradually earned the trust of his coach. With technical quality, quick decision-making, and a determined attitude, the Vietnamese-German midfielder is now showing he can play a more decisive role.
That promise came to life against Bangladesh. In the 75th minute, Viktor Le nearly found the net with a quick turn and right-footed effort that flew inches wide. Just two minutes later, he struck powerfully with his left foot, only to see the ball crash against the crossbar.
Persistence paid off in the 83rd minute. From a corner kick, Ly Duc’s header set up perfectly for Viktor Le, who rose above the defense and powered home a decisive header to double Vietnam’s lead. The goal not only sealed the victory but also showcased his ability to deliver at crucial moments.
His style is marked by compact, intelligent touches and quick releases suited to the modern game. While his lean frame suggests finesse, Viktor Le also carries a strong fighting spirit, constantly pressing and refusing to be intimidated by more physical opponents.
Coach Kim has emphasized that the team’s strength lies in collective play, but he acknowledged that Viktor Le can provide an edge in tight matches. For the 20-year-old midfielder, the goal is an important milestone in building confidence and proving his worth on the continental stage.
Despite struggling to find space in the ASEAN U23 Championship, Viktor Le’s steady improvement and adaptability underline his determination. Fans are now hopeful he can build on this breakthrough, continue to grow, and contribute significantly as Vietnam U23 chase qualification for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 in Saudi Arabia.
For Viktor Le, the journey is only beginning—but his first goal in Vietnamese colors is already a memorable one.
