Coach Kim Sang Sik calls on fans to fill up all stands ahead of clash with U23 Singapore

Viet Tri, 5 September, 2025 – On the eve of their second Group C match in the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers, head coach Kim Sang Sik has urged fans to turn out in numbers at Viet Tri Stadium to inspire U23 Vietnam in their crucial clash against U23 Singapore.

Speaking before the team’s training session on the afternoon of September 5, Kim emphasized that his squad has been working hard to prepare both physically and tactically for the encounter. “As everyone knows, the weather in Phu Tho is very hot. Through our meetings, we have reviewed match footage to learn from the previous game and prepare for the upcoming ones. Overall, U23 Vietnam is in good condition ahead of the match with U23 Singapore,” he stated.

Vietnam began their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over U23 Bangladesh on September 3, a result that currently puts them top of Group C on goal difference ahead of Yemen. However, with only two direct qualification spots available for the group winners and the four best runners-up across all groups, every point and every goal could prove decisive in the race for a place at the finals in Saudi Arabia next January.

When asked about his assessment of Singapore, Kim acknowledged that the Southeast Asian neighbors possess strengths of their own and should not be underestimated. He also hinted at some tactical changes in his starting eleven. “I cannot reveal specifics, but we will make a few adjustments in certain positions. I believe in the players and expect them to deliver their best performance,” Kim noted.

The South Korean coach, who recently guided U23 Vietnam to their third consecutive ASEAN U23 Championship title, concluded his remarks with a heartfelt appeal to supporters. “Tomorrow is our second match in Group C. We hope that fans in Phu Tho will come to the stadium to cheer for us, give strength to our young players, and help U23 Vietnam produce a strong performance.”

Vietnamese football fans are known for their passionate support, and Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho has previously hosted several memorable youth and senior international matches. With the national team currently riding a wave of optimism following their regional triumph in July, Kim is counting on the “12th man” to lift his players once again.

According to the official schedule, U23 Vietnam vs U23 Singapore will kick off at 19:00 on September 6 at Viet Tri Stadium. Earlier the same day, U23 Yemen will face U23 Bangladesh at 16:00, a match that could also influence the group standings.
