Coach Kim Sang Sik has a new assistant from South Korea

South Korea, 11 September, 2025 – According to South Korean journalist Kim Jin So of Sports Worldi, the Korea Sports Agents Association has officially confirmed that Mr. Choi So Sung has become part of the coaching staff of the Vietnam national football team. He will serve as an assistant to head coach Kim Sang Sik.

This move marks another step in Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to enhance their coaching expertise through international collaboration, particularly with South Korea—a country known for its strong football development programs and successful coaching exports across Asia.

Mr. Choi’s appointment brings further South Korean presence into the Vietnamese national team setup. Head coach Kim Sang Sik, a former national team player and respected figure in Korean football, was appointed earlier this year and has since begun shaping the squad in preparation for upcoming tournaments including the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

Sharing his thoughts on the new role, Mr. Choi expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “Anyone who loves sports can gain new perspectives and opportunities through this process,” he said. His statement reflects both humility and the growth mindset that many coaches value when working in dynamic football environments such as Vietnam.

While specific details of Mr. Choi’s responsibilities have not yet been disclosed, it is expected that he will support coach Kim in tactical preparations, match analysis, and player development strategies. His past experience within South Korea’s football infrastructure is anticipated to complement and strengthen the Vietnamese team’s tactical evolution under coach Kim’s leadership.

This appointment also underscores Vietnam Football Federation’s (VFF) broader vision of modernizing its approach through high-level expertise and international influence. The federation has shown a clear commitment to long-term development with continued investment in both youth and senior football programs.

Vietnamese football fans are hopeful that the addition of Mr. Choi to the coaching staff will bring fresh energy and valuable experience to the team. As Vietnam looks ahead to a competitive cycle of regional and continental tournaments, the new coaching lineup could play a crucial role in shaping a more disciplined, strategic, and resilient squad.

Mr. Choi’s integration into the team signals a growing partnership between Vietnamese and South Korean football, one that could bring both immediate results and long-term benefits to the national team’s ambitions.
