Mano Polking: ‘Hanoi Police FC controlled the game and deserved three points against Beijing Guoan’

Beijing, 18 September, 2025 – Hanoi Police FC started their AFC Champions League Two campaign with a valuable 2-2 draw away to Chinese powerhouse Beijing Guoan on September 18. Despite conceding twice, the Vietnamese side showed resilience and composure, leaving the Workers’ Stadium with an important point that keeps them competitive in Group Stage play.

According to Tiantian Sports, head coach Alexandre Polking was pleased with his team’s performance but expressed disappointment at not taking all three points. “I’m very pleased with our performance. We played a great match. Our opponents are strong, but we showed our toughness and pressing game. We controlled the match, and with this performance, we should have taken three points — we let the opportunity slip away. This one point still keeps us competitive in the group, but the important thing is that our performance was very good. I still believe we deserved all three points, but this is football — you get punished sometimes,” Polking said.

The coach also addressed the absence of his captain, who did not travel with the squad for the opening fixture. “He was injured in the previous match. After examination, he needs a few weeks to recover. I had initially planned to bring him, but in the end we decided to let him stay in Vietnam. He may still be out for a while, but the player who replaced him today performed very well,” Polking explained.

The result gives Hanoi Police FC confidence heading into their next group matches, where every point will be crucial in their bid to advance to the knockout stage. The Vietnamese champions will look to build on this strong away performance as they prepare to host their next opponent at home, where they will have the backing of passionate fans at Hang Day Stadium.
