UAE, 3 October 2025 – On the afternoon of October 3 in the UAE, Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Hai Dang (world No. 64) achieved a significant breakthrough as he advanced to the semifinals of the Al Ain Masters 2025, a BWF Super 100 tournament that attracts many rising stars of the sport. The event is considered an important platform for players outside the top tier to gain ranking points and prove themselves against higher-ranked opponents, making Hai Dang’s progress even more meaningful.
In the quarterfinals, the 25-year-old delivered a commanding performance against fourth seed Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul of Thailand, who currently sits at world No. 39. Right from the opening rallies, Hai Dang showed sharp reflexes and strong attacking play, quickly overwhelming his opponent. He took the first set 21-7 in just 13 minutes, a dominant display that left the Thai player struggling to find answers. In the second set, Teeraratsakul was forced to retire, sealing Hai Dang’s victory and passage to the final four.
This result marks a career milestone for the Vietnamese shuttler, as it is his first time reaching the semifinals of a BWF Super 100 event. Earlier this season, he had a strong showing at the Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City, but advancing at an international tournament outside of home soil further underlines his growth and consistency. The achievement also reflects his steady climb in the world rankings, where he has gradually improved through determination and disciplined training.
In the semifinals, Hai Dang will face another tough opponent in Joakim Oldorff of Finland, currently ranked world No. 54. The Finnish player has also been in solid form, and the clash promises to be a test of both skill and mental toughness. A win would not only give Hai Dang a chance to compete for the title but also move him significantly closer to breaking into the world’s top 50 – a goal he has been pursuing throughout the season.
Beyond rankings, this performance comes at a timely moment for Vietnamese badminton. With SEA Games 33 approaching, Hai Dang’s success provides a confidence boost both for himself and for the national team. Competing and winning at international tournaments helps him gain valuable match experience against diverse playing styles, which will be crucial when representing Vietnam at regional and continental competitions.
As Vietnamese badminton continues to seek greater recognition on the global stage, Hai Dang’s semifinal run at the Al Ain Masters stands as a proud achievement. It not only highlights his personal progress but also signals the potential for Vietnam to produce world-class players capable of challenging the sport’s traditional powerhouses.
