Vietnam women’s national team begin preparations for the 33rd SEA Games

Hanoi, 21 October 2025 – Vietnam women’s national football team officially kicked off their third training camp of 2025 on October 21 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi, as they gear up for SEA Games 33, scheduled to take place in Thailand this December.

Under the guidance of head coach Mai Duc Chung, the Vietnam women’s national team have begun their crucial preparation phase for the upcoming SEA Games 33. On the first day of camp, all 26 called-up players were present and immediately started training sessions after settling into accommodation at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi.

“This time, we have 26 players gathered fully,” coach Mai Duc Chung told reporters before training. “Some coaches and players from Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC are yet to join us as they are preparing for the AFC Women’s Club Championship, which will take place in November. From now until November 20, we will maintain regular training here in Hanoi and play three friendly matches to fine-tune our tactics.”

According to the plan, the team will travel to Japan on November 20 for an overseas training camp, where they are expected to play three friendlies against local club sides with compatible levels and styles, arranged with the support of the Japan Football Association (JFA). After returning from Japan, the team will move to Ho Chi Minh City to acclimatize to the weather conditions similar to Thailand before heading to compete in the SEA Games.

Coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized the importance of both physical and tactical improvements in this phase. “We’ve had valuable opportunities to face strong teams such as France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands, and recently the Australia U20 women’s team at the Southeast Asian Championship. Although our players still face limitations in physique and strength, they possess admirable fighting spirit and endurance. During this stage, we’ll focus on enhancing fitness and pressing tactics,” he explained.

There are several notable changes in the squad for this camp. Veteran midfielder Tuyet Dung has officially transitioned to a coaching role at her local club and will not participate this time. However, key players Huynh Nhu and Pham Hai Yen remain part of the lineup, having met the required fitness and form standards.

To refresh the team’s energy, several promising young players have been called up for the first time, including Thanh Hieu and Tran Nhat Lan, both regarded highly by the coaching staff for their potential and adaptability. Meanwhile, Thai Thi Thao, Duong Thi Van, and Ngan Thi Van Su are training separately as they recover from injuries, awaiting clearance to return to full training.

The Vietnam women’s team are determined to defend their SEA Games gold medal and use this preparation period as a stepping stone toward future international tournaments in 2026, reinforcing their long-term ambition to maintain their dominance in Southeast Asian women’s football.
