Nguyen Filip out for two months after groin injury

Hanoi, 24 October 2025 – Hanoi Police FC (CAHN) have suffered a major blow as goalkeeper Nguyen Filip has been diagnosed with a groin injury and is expected to be sidelined for about eight weeks, following his substitution during the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 match against Macarthur FC on October 23.

According to the latest medical update this morning, October 24, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip underwent examinations to determine the severity of the injury that forced him off during CAHN’s Group E match against Macarthur FC. The results revealed that the Vietnamese–Czech shot-stopper has sustained a groin muscle strain and will require approximately two months to recover fully.

To ensure an accurate assessment, medical scans have been sent to Singapore and the Czech Republic for further specialist review by trusted doctors familiar with Filip’s medical history.

In the match held at Hang Day Stadium, Filip was substituted in the 72nd minute after showing visible discomfort. His replacement, young goalkeeper Vu Thanh Vinh, was immediately tested but conceded a goal just five minutes later. From a right-wing corner, Macarthur FC’s towering defender Tomislav Uskok rose high to head the ball powerfully into the net, leveling the score at 1-1 — the final result of the match.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, head coach Alexandre Polking confirmed that Filip had been struggling with the injury before kickoff. “Two days before the match, Filip still complained of pain. I talked to him about the importance of this game and encouraged him to play, but as the match went on, the pain worsened,” Polking explained. “By the 72nd minute, he told me he no longer felt confident to continue, so I made the decision to substitute him.”

The injury is a significant setback for CAHN, as Filip has been one of the team’s most consistent performers this season, both in V.League 1 and in continental competition. His absence will leave a noticeable gap in goal, especially with crucial fixtures approaching in both the AFC Champions League Two and the domestic league.

CAHN are expected to rely on Vu Thanh Vinh and Vu Tuyen Quang as temporary options while awaiting Filip’s recovery. The club’s medical team will continue to monitor his rehabilitation process closely, with hopes that the 31-year-old goalkeeper can return before the start of the new year to reinforce the squad’s defensive stability.
