South Korea, 9 November 2025 – Vietnam’s No.1 badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh fell short in her quest for a title, losing 0-2 (16-21, 15-21) to Taiwan’s top seed Chiu Pin-chian in the Korea Masters 2025 final on the morning of November 9. Despite the defeat, the Vietnamese star secured valuable ranking points and continued to demonstrate her consistency at the Super 300 level.

In her fourth final appearance of the season, Nguyen Thuy Linh once again came agonizingly close to a breakthrough title but was stopped by an in-form Chiu Pin-chian in straight games at the Korea Masters 2025, a BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament held in Iksan, Jeonbuk Province, South Korea.

Chiu, 26, currently ranked No.20 in the world, is the top female shuttler from Taiwan. Known for her solid defense and sharp tactical play, she has enjoyed a strong year, reaching the quarterfinals at the China, Finland, and Denmark Opens before capping her run with her first-ever championship appearance in Korea.

The final began evenly, with both players exchanging points in the opening game. However, Thuy Linh began to struggle with unforced errors, allowing Chiu to pull ahead 17-13. The Taiwanese star maintained her momentum to take the first game 21-16.

Having lost her first set of the tournament, Thuy Linh appeared impatient in the second, attempting to force play with high-risk attacking shots. But Chiu’s calm and adaptable defense neutralized most of her efforts. Despite Thuy Linh’s attempts to rally, more unforced errors saw her concede the second game 15-21, ending the match in 39 minutes.

While the defeat marked her fourth runner-up finish this year—after finals in Germany, Canada, and Vietnam—the 28-year-old Vietnamese star still collected 9,120 USD in prize money and 5,950 BWF ranking points, reinforcing her position among the world’s top 25.

Born on November 20, 1997, in Phu Tho, Nguyen Thuy Linh turned professional at 14 and became Vietnam’s No.1 female player in 2018. She has since claimed eight consecutive national singles titles and three straight Vietnam Open championships (2022–2024). A two-time Olympian—at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024—she currently sits at No.24 in the BWF world rankings.

Despite falling short of the title, Thuy Linh’s performance at the Korea Masters 2025 once again showcased her determination and skill, signaling her growing maturity and readiness to challenge for bigger titles on the global badminton stage.
