Nguyen Thuy Linh falls in opening round of Australia Open 2025 ahead of SEA Games 33

Australia, 19 November 2025 – Vietnam’s No.1 women’s singles player Nguyen Thuy Linh was eliminated in the first round of the Australia Open 2025, her final international tournament before competing at SEA Games 33 in Thailand.

Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh exited the women’s singles event in the first round of the Australia Open 2025, marking the end of her international journey before turning full focus toward SEA Games 33. The tournament, part of the BWF World Tour Super 500 series, features a total prize fund of 475,000 USD and attracts many top-ranked players. With world ranking No.21, Thuy Linh was not seeded in the women’s singles draw.

In today’s opening round, she faced Taiwan’s Lin Hsing-ti, currently ranked No.22 in the world. Thuy Linh is no stranger to her opponent, having defeated Lin in their two previous encounters at the 2024 Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City and the 2022 Vietnam International Series in Da Nang.

However, the rematch in Australia proved far more challenging. Lin Hsing-ti showed significant improvement, pushing the match into a tight contest. In the first game, Thuy Linh trailed early but fought back to level 20–20 and even edged ahead. Nevertheless, she missed the decisive opportunities and fell 23–25 in a narrow and emotional finish. Boosted by the momentum, Lin dominated the second game and won 21–13, sealing a 2–0 victory.

According to Vietnam’s coaching staff, Thuy Linh will now shift completely into SEA Games preparation mode after the Australia Open. The 26-year-old is determined to deliver her best-ever performance for Vietnamese badminton at SEA Games 33, held this December in Thailand.
