Vietnam climb in FIFA rankings ahead of Laos result update

Hanoi, 20 November 2025 – Vietnam unexpectedly moved up to 110th in the latest FIFA rankings released on 19 November, despite the 2-0 win over Laos not yet being included in the calculation.

Vietnam national team received positive news late on 19 November when FIFA officially released the newest update of the men’s world rankings. According to the latest list, Vietnam rose one position to rank 110th globally. With this placement, the team stand 20th in Asia and remain second in Southeast Asia, behind Thailand.

Notably, Vietnam climbed one spot despite the points from their recent 2-0 victory over Laos not yet being added. The rise mainly came from the drop in rankings of several African teams, including Kenya and Tanzania. The points earned from the Laos match will only be included in the next FIFA ranking update, meaning Vietnam may continue to improve their position when the new list is announced.

In the Asian zone, the top five teams are Japan (18th), Iran (20th), South Korea (22nd), Australia (26th) and Uzbekistan (50th). At the top of the world rankings, Spain lead the table, followed by Argentina, France and England.

FIFA accelerated the release of this updated ranking to support preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Both the European play-off draw and the intercontinental play-off draw for the 2026 World Cup are scheduled for today, 20 November, so the new ranking was published earlier than usual, during the night of 19 and early morning of 20 November (Vietnam time).
