Vietnam women’s national team depart for Japan to begin final preparation phase for SEA Games 33

Hanoi, 20 November 2025 – Vietnam women’s national football team left for Japan early on 21 November, starting a crucial 10-day training camp to fine-tune their squad and tactics ahead of SEA Games 33.

Vietnam women’s national team officially departed for Japan in the early hours of 21 November, beginning an important training camp aimed at completing their final preparations for SEA Games 33. This overseas trip marks a decisive phase as the team works to solidify both personnel and tactical structure before travelling to Thailand for the regional tournament.

To optimise squad readiness, the coaching staff made several adjustments compared with the list announced on 17 October. After one month of physical and tactical training, five players — Le Thi Thu, Luu Hoang Van, Ta Thi Hong Minh, Nguyen Thi Van (injured), and Tran Nhat Lan — did not travel with the team.

In contrast, six key players from Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC were added immediately after the club completed the AFC Women’s Champions League 2025–2026 group stage with a quarterfinal berth. The reinforcements include Quach Thu Em, Cu Thi Huynh Nhu, Huynh Nhu, Tran Thi Thu Thao, Nguyen Thi Kim Yen, and goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh. Their arrival significantly strengthens the national squad, bringing both quality and valuable experience. Among them, star forward Huynh Nhu — born in 1991 and regarded as one of Vietnam’s most accomplished players — is expected to play a pivotal role at SEA Games 33. Meanwhile, young standout Cu Thi Huynh Nhu continues to rise as a key figure of the next generation.

The coaching staff also receives reinforcements from Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC, with head coach Doan Thi Kim Chi and assistant Nguyen Thi Kim Hong joining the national setup to support training and tactical preparation. With these additions, the Vietnam women’s team enters the Japan camp with a stronger, more balanced, and more competitive squad.

The team travelled directly from Viet Tri (Phu Tho) to Noi Bai International Airport late on 20 November, joined by eight members flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi the same evening. The delegation departed at 1:35am on 21 November and is scheduled to land in Nagoya at 8:00am local time.

During the 10-day training camp, coach Mai Duc Chung’s side will play three friendly matches against university teams in Nagoya. These fixtures aim to assess individual form, team coordination, and tactical adaptability, ensuring the players fine-tune their rhythm before entering SEA Games 33.

After completing the Japan programme, Vietnam will return to Ho Chi Minh City on 30 November and remain in camp for two more days to adjust to regional weather conditions. On 2 December, the team will fly to Chonburi, Thailand, ready to embark on their mission of reclaiming the SEA Games gold medal.
