Bangkok, 15 December 2025 – Vietnam women’s volleyball team narrowly lost 2–3 to hosts Thailand in a dramatic SEA Games 33 final, with an especially tense fifth set denying them the gold medal.
Vietnam delivered an emotional and high-quality performance in the final against Thailand, but ultimately had to accept a painful 2–3 defeat. The match was widely regarded as one of the most thrilling women’s volleyball finals at the SEA Games.
Vietnam started brightly in the opening set, with head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s players showing confidence and variety in attack. Thanh Thuy and Vi Quynh scored consistently, while setter Kim Thoa orchestrated the offense intelligently. Vietnam took the first set 25–19 to seize an early advantage.

Thailand responded strongly in the next two sets, using their trademark speed, solid defense, and efficient transitions. The hosts dominated set two 25–13 before continuing their momentum with a 25–18 win in set three to move ahead 2–1.
Refusing to give in, Vietnam showed resilience and composure in the fourth set. Bich Thuy and Thanh Thuy stepped up at crucial moments, helping Vietnam edge a tense 25–23 victory and force the match into a decisive fifth set.
The final set was fiercely contested, with Vietnam at one point holding a clear advantage. However, Thailand made the most of key moments, capitalizing on small lapses to clinch the set 25–23 and secure the SEA Games gold medal in a dramatic finish.
Despite missing out on the gold, the Vietnam women’s volleyball team earned widespread praise for their fighting spirit, composure under pressure, and a performance that reflected pride, progress, and promise on the regional stage.
