Hanoi, 26 December 2025 – Attending the Annual Congress of the Vietnam Football Federation in 2025, Winston Lee, Secretary General of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), shared his congratulations and praised Vietnamese football for a remarkably successful year.
“I am very honored to be in Vietnam today,” Winston Lee said. “Congratulations to Vietnamese football on an impressive start to 2025 with the ASEAN Cup 2024 title, followed by the U23 Southeast Asian Championship in mid-year, and closing the year with the gold medal at SEA Games 33.
“It can be affirmed that 2025 has been an extremely successful year for Vietnamese football. This success comes from the strong attention and direction of state leaders, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Sports Authority, as well as the close support and companionship of clubs and member organizations. Above all, it is a shared achievement of the Vietnamese people, who have always shown great love and passion for football. You have every right to be proud of these accomplishments.
“The results achieved today are clear evidence of a long-term accumulation process and a correct development strategy pursued by Vietnamese football over many years. Notably, in 2025, as many as seven Vietnamese national teams qualified for AFC final tournaments—an important milestone that reflects the relentless efforts of Vietnamese football.
“In addition, the presence of three Vietnamese representatives on FIFA standing committees further demonstrates the growing role and stature of Vietnamese football on the international stage. Within this collective success, we highly value the leadership and significant contributions of the President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Tran Quoc Tuan.
“The success of Vietnamese football is not only a source of pride for Vietnam, but also a shared pride for Southeast Asian football as a whole. We are truly proud of what Vietnamese football has achieved and sincerely wish you success in qualifying for the World Cup in the near future.”
