VFF stunned by Vietnam U23’s historic achievement

Hanoi, 27 January, 2026 – VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu admitted he was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding performance of Vietnam U23 at the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026, where the team claimed a historic bronze medal after winning the third-place match.

He said the achievement marks a significant milestone and highlights the rapid development of Vietnam’s young talents. Tran Anh Tu praised the squad’s unity, fighting spirit, and depth, noting that the players proved their quality from the opening win over Jordan U23 and maintained consistency throughout the tournament.

Winning five of six matches, Vietnam U23 overcame a demanding schedule, intense pressure, and injury concerns, showing strong resilience. The semifinal defeat to China U23 was described as a valuable lesson that will help the team grow.

He particularly highlighted the bronze-medal victory over South Korea U23, where Vietnam played most of the match with ten men but still held firm and triumphed on penalties. According to him, the adversity strengthened the team’s bond and showcased their mentality.

Tran Anh Tu concluded that the bronze medal is more than just a result—it represents the maturity of a promising generation and provides a solid foundation for the long-term future of Vietnamese football.
