Impressive opening win, Thuy Linh set to face An Se Young in China

China, 8 April 2026 – Vietnam’s number one badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh made an impressive start at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China.

Ranked 26th in the world, Nguyen Thuy Linh was not seeded in the women’s singles event, as most of the world’s top players come from Asia. As a result, she faced a tough opponent right from the first round — Huang Yu-hsun of Chinese Taipei, who is ranked 30th in the world.

The opening game was closely contested, with both players adopting a similar style focused on controlled rallies and patiently waiting for errors. There were many unforced mistakes from both sides early on, but Nguyen Thuy Linh gradually gained control, putting together an impressive scoring run to win 21-13.

In the second game, she maintained strong attacking pressure and quickly built a six-point lead at 10-4. However, Huang Yu-hsun responded with a solid run to level the score at 11-11. The 23-year-old from Chinese Taipei pushed hard for a comeback, but Nguyen Thuy Linh showed her experience and composure to close out the game 21-16, sealing a 2-0 victory.

After defeating a strong opponent in a 35-minute match, Nguyen Thuy Linh advanced to the second round of the women’s singles event. Her next opponent will be top seed and world number one An Se Young. This will be a major challenge, as Nguyen Thuy Linh has lost all three of their previous encounters.
