“Right-hand man” of coach Kim Sang Sik unexpectedly parts ways with Vietnam national team

Hanoi, 9 April 2026 – After completing his contract with the VFF on March 31, 2026, assistant coach Lee Jung Soo will no longer continue his role with the Vietnam national team and the Vietnam U23 team.

Lee Jung Soo joined the coaching staff of both the Vietnam national team and U23 Vietnam in March 2025, working alongside head coach Kim Sang Sik during preparations for and participation in several major tournaments, including SEA Games 33, the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup, and the qualifiers for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

During his tenure, Lee Jung Soo consistently demonstrated strong responsibility, professionalism, and made valuable contributions to the team’s technical development.

Before moving to Vietnam, Lee Jung Soo was known as a former South Korea international, with a solid professional background built during his playing career at the highest level.

The highlight of his career came at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where he helped South Korea reach the Round of 16. He also scored two goals in the tournament, against Nigeria and Greece.

After retiring from professional football, Lee Jung Soo transitioned into coaching and gained experience in various environments. He previously worked as an assistant coach at Ho Chi Minh FC, Suwon FC, and Dongguk University before joining coach Kim Sang Sik’s staff with the Vietnam national team.
