Hanoi, 4 April 2026 – Nguyen Thuy Linh is set to compete in the women’s singles event at the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships. Vietnam’s top player could face world number one An Se Young at this tournament.
From April 7 to April 12, the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships will take place in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China. Vietnam will be represented by eight players: Nguyen Hai Dang, Tran Dinh Manh, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, Pham Thi Dieu Ly, Pham Thi Khanh, Pham Van Truong, Bui Bich Phuong, and Nguyen Thuy Linh.
Among them, Nguyen Thuy Linh is Vietnam’s number one women’s singles player and the only athlete to qualify directly for the main draw. According to the official draw, her first-round opponent will be Huang Yu Hsun of Chinese Taipei, currently ranked 30th in the world.
If she overcomes the Chinese Taipei player, Thuy Linh is likely to face world number one An Se Young in the second round. This would be a tough challenge, as Thuy Linh has lost all three of their previous encounters without winning a single set. In their most recent meeting at the Malaysian Open 2025, she was defeated 15-21, 15-21.
In 2026, Thuy Linh has not been in her best form. Since the start of the year, the 1997-born player has competed in five tournaments but has not progressed beyond the quarterfinals in any of them.
Although An Se Young currently dominates women’s singles badminton worldwide, she has yet to win the Badminton Asia Championships title. Even so, if they meet in this tournament, Thuy Linh’s chances of victory remain very slim.
Last year, Thuy Linh also competed in the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships but was eliminated in the first round after losing in straight sets to Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.
