Hanoi, 26 April 2026 – The race at both ends of the standings in the V.League 1 2025–2026 season is entering its most intense phase. At the top, the title battle is being shaped by a group of foreign coaches, many of whom have made a clear impact.
It has been a long time since V.League 1 witnessed such an exciting contest among foreign managers at the top. Among them, Alexandre Polking stands out as the most experienced. Having joined Hanoi Police FC in 2024, he is now guiding the team toward the championship. Their strong performances have earned him a contract extension until 2028, with the title seemingly only a matter of time.
Polking’s experience in Southeast Asia, including spells with the Thailand national team and clubs in the region, combined with a star-studded squad, gives him a major advantage in the title race.
While Hanoi Police FC appear close to lifting the trophy, the battle for second and third place remains fierce among The Cong Viettel, Ninh Binh FC, and Hanoi FC—all of whom have recently placed their trust in foreign coaches.

Viettel are currently led by Bulgarian coach Velizar Popov. Competing for the title may be difficult, so their focus has shifted to maintaining a safe gap from chasing teams. However, Popov’s four-match suspension at this crucial stage is a significant setback.
Ninh Binh, currently third, boast a strong squad but have experienced instability on the bench. New head coach Bae Ji-won, working alongside experienced technical director Vu Tien Thanh, faces the challenge of securing a top-three finish and competing for the National Cup.

Meanwhile, Hanoi FC, under Harry Kewell, are gaining momentum. Sitting fourth and just one point behind Ninh Binh, they are in excellent form and could threaten both Ninh Binh and Viettel in the final stretch.
Another club using a foreign coach is Becamex Ho Chi Minh City, led by Japanese manager Ueno Nobuhiro. However, results have been inconsistent. Despite support from experienced technical director Dang Tran Chinh, the squad still lacks the quality and stability needed to compete at the top level.
