Nguyen Huy Hoang wins silver medal at 2026 Asian Beach Games

Hainan, 26 April 2026 – Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang delivered an impressive performance to win the silver medal in the men’s 5km open water event at the 2026 Asian Beach Games.

On the morning of April 26, Vietnam added three more medals on the fourth official day of competition at the Games in Hainan, China. In the men’s 5km race, Nguyen Huy Hoang finished second with a time of 53 minutes 53.02 seconds.

His result was considered outstanding, as he narrowly lost to China’s Zhang Ziyang in the final moments. In the same event, young swimmer Mai Tran Tuan Anh also impressed, securing the bronze medal with a time of 53 minutes 56.03 seconds.

In addition to the swimming medals, Vietnam also earned a bronze medal in the women’s 400m traditional boat racing event. After previously winning silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m, the team—including athletes such as Thanh Thuy, Ngoc Uyen, Hai Anh, Lai Thi Thuy, Bui Thi Yen, Ngoc Diem, Ma Thi Thuong, Diep Thi Thuy, Nguyen Thi Tam, Phuong Minh, Nguyen Thi Loi, Ho Thi Ne, and Lan Anh—maintained consistent form to finish third with a time of 1 minute 53.098 seconds.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s athletics team did not perform as expected in the women’s high jump and failed to add more medals during the morning session.

As of the end of competition on April 26, Vietnam has collected 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 4 bronzes, temporarily ranking fourth in the overall medal standings.
