China, 7 May 2026 – Vietnam U17 Women produced a dramatic 2-1 victory over Myanmar U17 Women to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 in stunning fashion. The result also saw Vietnam leapfrog Thailand into second place in Group A.
After collecting just one point from their opening two matches, Vietnam entered the game knowing that only a win would keep their qualification hopes alive. Three points would guarantee at least a spot among the two best third-placed teams.
Myanmar, however, also had a chance to advance and started the match aggressively. Right from kickoff, they pushed forward with intensity and forced goalkeeper Cam My and the Vietnamese defense to work hard under constant pressure.
Despite being under pressure early on, Vietnam struck first in spectacular style in the 18th minute. From a free-kick more than 30 meters away from goal, Linh Chi delivered a stunning effort that flew directly into the net, giving Vietnam a surprising 1-0 lead. The goal lifted the confidence of the Vietnamese players, while Myanmar increased the pressure in search of an equalizer.
Myanmar controlled large periods of possession, but Vietnam’s disciplined defense managed to limit clear-cut opportunities. On the other end, the team coached by Okiyama Masahiko also struggled to create dangerous counter-attacks.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Myanmar continuing to dominate territory. However, Vietnam once again made the most of a set-piece opportunity. In the 55th minute, Ngoc Anh scored from another free-kick around 20 meters from goal to double the lead at 2-0, leaving Myanmar stunned as both Vietnamese goals came from dead-ball situations.
With nothing left to lose, Myanmar threw numbers forward in attack. Although they created several chances, poor finishing and rushed decisions prevented them from scoring sooner. It was not until the 66th minute that Thaw Dar Hnin finally found the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and revive Myanmar’s hopes.
The final minutes saw relentless pressure from Myanmar, while Vietnam dropped deeper to defend their advantage. In the end, the hard-fought win allowed Vietnam to move above Thailand into second place in Group A on goal difference, with both teams finishing on four points. In the other group match, Thailand suffered a heavy 0-6 defeat to China but still advanced as one of the two best third-placed teams.
