Taiwan, 6 June 2026 – Trinh Thu Vinh and her teammates delivered an outstanding performance to win the women’s 25m sport pistol team gold medal at the 2026 Southeast Asian Shooting Championship in Taiwan.
Vietnam was represented in the event by Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang, and Nguyen Thuy Dung. After the qualification round, Nguyen Thuy Trang posted 588 points, Trinh Thu Vinh scored 587, and Nguyen Thuy Dung added 574. Their combined total of 1,749 points secured the gold medal for Vietnam and set a new Southeast Asian record in the women’s 25m sport pistol team event.
Adding to Vietnam’s success, Nguyen Thuy Trang’s qualification score of 588 points also established a new Southeast Asian individual record.
Nguyen Thuy Trang and Trinh Thu Vinh both advanced to the individual final. After a closely contested medal round, Nguyen Thuy Trang captured the silver medal with 32 points, while Trinh Thu Vinh narrowly missed out on an individual podium finish.
The result marks an important milestone for Trinh Thu Vinh, who has faced high expectations since her remarkable performance at the 2025 SEA Games. At that event, the Vietnamese shooting star won four gold medals, including individual titles in the women’s 10m air pistol and 25m sport pistol disciplines.
Since then, Thu Vinh has competed in several major international tournaments, including the 2026 Asian Shooting Championships in India and a 2026 ISSF World Cup event in Germany. Although she did not win gold at those competitions, she consistently maintained strong performances and met the standards set by Vietnam’s coaching staff.
The gold medal in Chinese Taipei is therefore viewed as a significant confidence boost for the Vietnamese shooter. Known for her composure and focus under pressure, Thu Vinh has often emphasized the importance of staying calm during competition. With the burden of expectations easing, the latest success could help her perform even more freely in upcoming events.
Vietnam’s coaching staff also highlighted the value of the Southeast Asian Championship as an opportunity for athletes to sharpen their form, gain confidence, and build momentum ahead of future international challenges.
The championship has already provided a positive start for Vietnam’s shooting team, with the women’s 25m sport pistol gold medal standing out as one of the nation’s most notable achievements at the tournament so far.
