Mexico, 11 June 2026 – The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is almost over, with the tournament set to officially begin at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico on June 12 (Vietnam time). FIFA is preparing a spectacular opening ceremony, widely expected to be one of the most ambitious and memorable in World Cup history.
Among the distinguished guests expected to attend is Tran Quoc Tuan, President of the Vietnam Football Federation.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has officially invited Tran Quoc Tuan to participate in the opening ceremony and attend the tournament’s opening match in Mexico. The event will not only mark the start of the world’s biggest football festival but also showcase FIFA’s vision for the largest World Cup ever staged.
According to the schedule, the opening ceremony will take place at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City at 11:30 a.m. local time on June 11, equivalent to 00:30 a.m. on June 12 in Vietnam. The ceremony will be followed by the opening match between hosts Mexico National Football Team and South Africa National Football Team, which kicks off at 2:00 a.m. Vietnam time.
The invitation extended to the VFF president, along with senior officials from football associations around the world, highlights FIFA’s efforts to bring together the global football community for the start of this historic tournament.
For Vietnamese football, the occasion also provides an opportunity for its leadership to experience the atmosphere of the World Cup firsthand and strengthen international ties within the global football landscape.
Tran Quoc Tuan arrived in Mexico on June 10 and is expected to take part in a series of official activities surrounding the opening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
