Pleiku, 11 August 2026 – Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) are closing in on the signing of towering Brazilian center-back. Júlio César Basílio da Silva as the club continues to reshape its foreign-player contingent ahead of the 2026/27 V.League season.
According to the latest V.League transfer developments, the 1.92m defender has spent the past several days training with Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s first-team squad. Should everything proceed as planned, Júlio César is expected to earn a contract and become one of the club’s new foreign players for the upcoming campaign.
The Brazilian is not the only overseas player currently being assessed by the Pleiku-based club. Hoang Anh Gia Lai have also been evaluating several other Brazilian trialists, including Luann Augusto, Robson Reis, and Wendel Jr., as the coaching staff carefully considers its options before finalizing the foreign-player slots.
Despite a growing number of names being linked with the club, Hoang Anh Gia Lai have yet to officially announce any of the Brazilian trialists as new signings.
The cautious recruitment strategy follows a major overhaul of the club’s foreign contingent. HAGL parted ways with all of their foreign players from last season, leaving the club with several important decisions to make as they rebuild the squad for 2026/27.
Rather than rushing into new deals, Hoang Anh Gia Lai are using the preseason period to closely evaluate potential recruits through training sessions and trial periods. The approach allows the coaching staff to assess not only individual quality but also fitness, tactical suitability, and how effectively each player can adapt to the team’s playing style.
The regulations for the 2026/27 V.League 1 also give clubs additional time to make those decisions. Teams are permitted to replace registered foreign players until September 30, 2026, by which point the competition will be approaching its third round.
The extended window means clubs do not necessarily have to finalize their foreign-player lineups before the opening round. As a result, several teams—particularly those that finished in the lower half of the standings last season—are expected to take a more patient approach, extensively scouting and trialing overseas players before committing to contracts.
For Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Júlio César has now emerged as one of the leading candidates to secure a place in the squad. If the deal is completed, his 1.92m frame could provide a significant physical presence at the heart of HAGL’s defense as the club prepares for another demanding V.League 1 campaign.
