Adelaide, 11 August 2026 – Hanoi Police FC are set to receive approximately $850,000 in financial support and participation payments from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) after making history with a 2-0 victory over Adelaide United in the 2026/27 AFC Champions League playoff on August 11.
The reigning V.League champions traveled to Australia for the decisive qualification clash knowing that victory would secure their place in the league stage of Asia’s premier club competition.
Despite playing away from home, Hanoi Police FC produced a disciplined counter-attacking performance and capitalized clinically on their opportunities to claim a memorable victory.
The breakthrough arrived in the 41st minute following a rapid transition. Juan Perea dropped deeper and turned provider, releasing Geovane Henen into space. Henen raced through on goal before calmly firing a low finish past the Adelaide goalkeeper to give the Vietnamese side a 1-0 advantage.
Hanoi Police FC continued to threaten on the counter after halftime and doubled their lead in the 64th minute.
This time, Henen turned provider. The attacker broke down the right flank before delivering a dangerous low ball across the penalty area, where Perea arrived to finish clinically and make it 2-0.
Hanoi Police FC then successfully protected their advantage to complete a landmark victory on Australian soil.
The result saw Hanoi Police FC become the first V.League club in history to win an AFC Champions League playoff match, securing their place in the league stage of the 2026/27 AFC Champions League.
Historic Victory Brings Major Financial Reward
Beyond its sporting significance, the victory also brings a substantial financial boost for the Vietnamese champions.
According to the competition’s financial arrangements, Hanoi Police FC are set to receive $50,000 in travel support for their trip to Australia to contest the playoff.
More importantly, victory over Adelaide secured Hanoi Police FC’s qualification for the league stage, which is expected to earn the club an additional $800,000 participation payment, equivalent to more than VND 21 billion.
That takes the club’s expected AFC-related earnings from the playoff and qualification to approximately $850,000.
The figure could rise considerably as the tournament progresses. Further financial rewards are available depending on Hanoi Police FC’s results in the league stage, meaning victories and draws could add to the club’s overall earnings.
For Hanoi Police FC, the 2-0 triumph therefore represents much more than qualification. It marks a historic breakthrough for the club and Vietnamese football, while also providing a significant financial boost ahead of their campaign against some of Asia’s strongest teams.
