Iran and Palestine U20 arrive in Phu Tho ahead of AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers

Viet Tri, 29 August 2026 – Iran U20 and Palestine U20 national teams arrived in Phu Tho on the morning of August 29 as preparations gather pace for Group C of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Despite a lengthy journey to Vietnam, members of the Iran U20 squad appeared relaxed and in good spirits upon their arrival.

Iran are considered one of the strongest teams in Group C, backed by the country’s rich football tradition and reputation as one of Asia’s leading football nations.

Head coach Ghasem Haddadifar and his players have been preparing extensively for the qualifiers. The squad began gathering in early July and subsequently travelled to Turkey for a training camp, where they played eight friendly matches as part of a comprehensive preparation programme designed to assess players and finalise the squad.

Before travelling to Vietnam, Iran also completed a two-week training camp in Thailand. During their stay, the West Asian side defeated Thailand U20 and drew with Iraq U20 in friendly matches, providing valuable competitive preparation ahead of the continental qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Palestine U20 have attracted attention with a squad featuring several players currently playing or developing their careers overseas.

Among them are a number of young talents attached to youth teams in Germany, adding international experience to the Palestinian squad as they prepare for the competition in Vietnam.

The remaining Group C side, North Korea U20, are scheduled to arrive in Phu Tho on the evening of August 29, completing the arrival of the visiting teams.

A pre-tournament press conference is scheduled for August 30, ahead of the opening matches in Group C of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
