India, 4 Nov 2026 – Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat to North Korean side 4.25 SC in their second Group A match of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2026/27 on November 4, leaving the Vietnamese representatives bottom of the standings without a point and facing an uphill battle to reach the quarter-finals.
Playing in India, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC struggled to match the pace, physical strength and attacking quality of their opponents. Head coach Doan Thi Kim Chi’s side spent much of the match defending as 4.25 SC dominated possession, applied relentless pressure and repeatedly exposed weaknesses in the Vietnamese team’s defensive organisation. The North Korean club entered the encounter with confidence after defeating South Korean champions Hwacheon KSPO 2-1 in their opening fixture and quickly demonstrated why they are among the strongest teams in the group.
The breakthrough arrived in the eighth minute when Myong Yu-jong converted a penalty to give 4.25 SC an early advantage. Just ten minutes later, Jong Pok-yong doubled the lead with a header following a cross from the right flank. Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC attempted to reorganise their defence, but the visitors’ aerial strength and coordinated attacking movements continued to cause problems throughout the first half.
The situation deteriorated further after the interval. In the 48th minute, Jon Ryong-jong extended the lead to 3-0 following a well-executed corner-kick routine. The Vietnamese side continued to struggle with crosses and set pieces, allowing Choe Song-gyong to score the fourth goal with a header in the 71st minute. As the match entered its closing stages, Ri Su-yang capitalised on a defensive misunderstanding between goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh and her teammates to make it 5-0 in the 87th minute. Choe Song-gyong then completed her brace in the second minute of stoppage time, sealing an emphatic 6-0 victory for the North Korean representatives.
The result highlighted the considerable gap between the two teams. 4.25 SC finished as runners-up in North Korea’s domestic women’s championship and boast several experienced internationals, including five players who were part of the national team that claimed the silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games. Their combination of technical ability, physical intensity and disciplined organisation proved overwhelming for Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC, who were unable to establish a consistent attacking threat.
Following the defeat, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC remain bottom of Group A with zero points from two matches, while 4.25 SC have collected a maximum six points and are firmly on course for a place in the quarter-finals. Elsewhere in the group, hosts East Bengal entered their second fixture with three points, while South Korea’s Hwacheon KSPO were still searching for their first victory.
Despite the heavy loss, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC have not yet been mathematically eliminated. Under the competition format, the top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals alongside the two best third-placed teams. With that route still available, Kim Chi’s players must now focus on their final group-stage encounter against Hwacheon KSPO, scheduled for November 7.
The upcoming match represents the Vietnamese club’s last opportunity to revive their qualification hopes. However, after conceding six goals against 4.25 SC and failing to collect a point from their opening two matches, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC face a difficult task against another opponent determined to secure a place in the knockout stage.
