Hanoi, 26 May, 2025 – Striker Nguyen Xuan Son is currently in the recovery process, with hopes of making a swift return to play for both Nam Dinh FC and the Vietnam national team.
Nguyen Xuan Son is recovering from an injury sustained in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final, where Vietnam triumphed over Thailand with a 3-2 victory at Rajamangala Stadium. The 1997-born forward is following a rehabilitation program prescribed by the hospital, combining training at the club with regular check-ups at Vinmec Times City.
On the morning of May 26, 2025, Nguyen Van Phu, the General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), visited Xuan Son to inquire about his post-surgery recovery. The VFF leadership expressed their joy at Xuan Son’s fast recovery and expressed hopes that he would soon return to the pitch, contributing to both his club and the national team.
At Nam Dinh FC, Xuan Son has been training diligently with the team’s medical staff and fitness coach, and there are expectations that he will soon return to full training with the club.
During the meeting, Xuan Son shared his rehabilitation progress and expressed his hope of returning to both training and competitive play soon.
Earlier, in March, a joint meeting between the VFF and the Vinmec Center for Orthopedic Trauma and Sports Medicine assessed Xuan Son’s recovery as promising. The striker has shown the ability to move lightly and has been following an intensive rehabilitation program, training twice a day to maintain weight, muscle strength, and promote rapid bone healing.
Under the plan, Xuan Son will continue his recovery treatment with exercises designed to be similar to those he would do at the club. The intensity of weight training will gradually increase according to his recovery progress, ensuring muscle strength is maintained throughout the therapy process, providing a solid foundation for a stronger return after the injury.
Nam Dinh FC has also committed to a long-term partnership with Xuan Son. The 1997-born striker has signed a contract that runs until 2031.
With this six-year deal, Xuan Son is expected to commit the remainder of his career to the club.
Xuan Son joined Nam Dinh FC in December 2019. After playing one season, he moved to Da Nang (2021) and Binh Dinh (2022, 2023), before returning to Nam Dinh for the 2023-2024 season. He has scored 31 goals in the V.League, helping Nam Dinh FC reach the top.
The 28-year-old striker also shone in the 2024 AFF Cup, scoring 7 goals in 5 matches and helping Vietnam reclaim the Southeast Asian crown.
