Osaka, 15 June, 2025 – On the afternoon of June 15, the Vietnam women’s national football team wrapped up their training camp in Japan with a 1-1 draw against the Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences. The match served as the final tune-up ahead of their campaign in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers.
Coach Mai Duc Chung fielded a familiar starting XI to the lineup that defeated Iga Kunoichi Mie FC earlier in the tour. Kim Thanh started in goal, supported by defenders Chuong Thi Kieu, Luong Thu Thuong, Tran Thi Thu, Hoang Thi Lam, and Ngan Thi Van Su. In midfield, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Duong Van, Thu Thao, and Nguyen Thi Van featured behind striker Huynh Nhu. The only change from the previous match was Hoang Thi Loan replacing Thai Thi Thao in defense.
The Japanese university side began the game strongly and capitalized early with a goal in the sixth minute, taking advantage of their agility and strong fitness to go up 1-0. However, the Vietnamese players quickly settled and restored parity through a composed finish from Tran Thi Thu Thao.
Coach Mai Duc Chung made the first substitution in the 29th minute, bringing on Pham Hai Yen for Huynh Nhu, which helped balance the match further. Despite pressing efforts from both teams, no additional goals were scored in the first half.
Vietnam continued to rotate players, with Nguyen Thi Hoa and Tuyet Ngan entering in the 73rd minute to replace Hoang Thi Loan and Bich Thuy. The substitutions brought fresh energy, but neither side could find the net again before the final whistle.
With this result, the Vietnam women’s team concluded their three-match friendly schedule in Japan with two wins and one draw, showing solid form ahead of competitive action:
-
June 11: Vietnam 3-2 Iga Kunoichi Mie FC
-
June 13: Vietnam 3-1 Tezukayama Gakuin University
-
June 15: Vietnam 1-1 Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences
The team is set to return to Vietnam and head to Viet Tri, Phu Tho, where they will continue preparations for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 group stage match scheduled for June 18. Coach Mai Duc Chung and his squad will have 10 days to finalize tactical adjustments and squad readiness before the tournament officially kicks off.
