Vietnam drop four places in July 2025 FIFA rankings

Hanoi, 10 July, 2025 – FIFA has officially released its July 2025 rankings, revealing a mixed bag of fortunes for Southeast Asian teams. While Vietnam and Thailand both dropped in the global standings, Indonesia made a notable jump, gaining five spots to rank 118th in the world.

At the top of the table, reigning world champions Argentina retained their number one position with 1885.36 points. Spain climbed to second place, followed by France in third, England in fourth, and Brazil rounding out the top five. Croatia made headlines by breaking into the top ten, displacing Italy to 11th place.

In the CONCACAF region, Gold Cup champions Mexico moved up four places to 13th, overtaking the United States, who are now ranked 15th after gaining one spot. Costa Rica emerged as the biggest climber of the month, leaping 14 positions to reach 40th following their impressive run to the Gold Cup quarterfinals.

Within the Asian Football Confederation, Japan and Iran maintained their positions as the top two teams on the continent. South Korea held third place, while Australia remained fourth in Asia.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia enjoyed the strongest improvement, rising five places to 118th. Malaysia remained steady at 125th. However, it was a disappointing month for regional powerhouses Vietnam and Thailand. Vietnam fell four places to 113th, while Thailand slipped three positions, falling out of the top 100 in the world.

Vietnam’s decline follows recent results in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, where they faced strong opposition and failed to secure key points. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his players are now under pressure to reverse the slide in the upcoming international fixtures and reclaim a spot among the top 100 ranked nations.

With the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and regional competitions looming, the FIFA rankings will be a valuable metric for assessing progress and determining seedings. All eyes will be on whether Vietnam can rebound in the coming months and restore its standing as one of Southeast Asia’s top teams.
