Hanoi, 23 July, 2025 – Vietnamese badminton star Nguyen Thuy Linh has achieved the highest world ranking of her career, climbing to No.18 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) women’s singles rankings announced on July 22.
The 27-year-old athlete moved up two spots from her previous ranking, largely thanks to her impressive runner-up finish at the 2025 Canada Open. This marks the first time a Vietnamese female badminton player has ever reached the top 20 in the BWF women’s singles rankings, making it a historic milestone for Vietnamese badminton.
Nguyen Thuy Linh’s consistent performances have steadily elevated her career on the international stage. She has qualified for two consecutive Olympic Games — Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 — representing Vietnam in the women’s singles category.

Currently, Linh is training with the Vietnamese national badminton team in Bac Ninh as she prepares for the 2025 BWF World Championships, which will take place in August in France. This will be her sixth consecutive appearance at the World Championships, reaffirming her status as Vietnam’s leading female shuttler.
On the same BWF ranking update, Vu Thi Trang moved up one place to reach No.155 in the women’s singles standings.
In the men’s singles category, Nguyen Hai Dang maintained his position at No.60, continuing to be the highest-ranked male Vietnamese player. Just behind him is Le Duc Phat, who holds the 61st position.
Nguyen Thuy Linh’s rise to the world’s top 20 is not only a personal achievement but also a significant boost for Vietnam’s badminton scene as the country aims to assert its presence on the global stage.
