Da Nang, 1st August, 2025 – At 17:00 on August 1, Quang Nam FC failed to submit its registration list for the upcoming V.League 1 2025/26 season, officially confirming their withdrawal from the competition. This decision came despite prior reports that the club was close to being “rescued” by potential sponsors.
The shock announcement first surfaced on July 21, when Quang Nam FC admitted financial difficulties and signaled possible dissolution. This stunned the football community, as the club—V.League champions in 2017—has a rich history in Vietnamese football. Despite battling relegation last season, coach Van Sy Son and his players fought hard to secure safety, making the sudden disbandment even more unexpected.
Following their initial announcement, rumors emerged that at least two sponsors were ready to support the team. However, as coach Van Sy Son remarked at the time:
“I haven’t seen any sponsors, nor any funds for the team’s operation. All I know is the players have been scrambling to find new clubs as the registration deadline approaches.”
The uncertainty caused major headaches for the organizers, as Quang Nam continuously delayed a final decision. In a document sent to the VPF on July 28, the club stated they had reached an agreement in principle with several investors and requested an extension until July 30 to finalize contracts. However, when the deadline passed with no progress, hopes of their participation quickly faded.
On August 1, after the club missed the final deadline to submit its squad list, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam Professional Football Company (VPF) confirmed Quang Nam’s withdrawal. This triggered disciplinary procedures and their removal from the league.
In response, VFF issued Notification No. 1585 outlining replacement plans. One of two First Division teams, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai or PVF-CAND, will be promoted to take Quang Nam’s place. If either club accepts, the organizers will allow flexibility with registration deadlines due to their late inclusion. Should both decline, the V.League 1 2025/26 schedule will need to be redrawn for a 13-team competition.
The dissolution of Quang Nam FC leaves deep scars—not only causing logistical issues for the league but also erasing a storied club from Vietnam’s professional football map. For fans in the central region, the loss is particularly painful, marking the end of an era for Quang Nam football.
