Dortmund, 12 September, 2025 – On the evening of September 10 (local time), the Vietnam U17 women’s team, under the guidance of head coach Okiyama Masahiko, secured an impressive 6-2 win over Borussia Dortmund U17 in a friendly match held during their ongoing training camp in Germany.
As part of an agreement between the two sides, the match was played across three periods of 30 minutes each, giving both squads the chance to rotate players and maximize opportunities for valuable match experience.
Vietnam started the game brightly and quickly took control. In the 15th minute, a corner kick caused chaos in the Dortmund penalty area, resulting in an own goal that put the visitors ahead 1-0. Just four minutes later, Nguyen Thi Minh Anh doubled the lead with a precise finish.
Confidence surged for the Vietnamese side, and they continued to push forward relentlessly. Nguyen Thi Linh Chi extended the lead in the 27th minute with a spectacular long-range strike that left the Dortmund goalkeeper helpless. Before the end of the first period, Truong Yen Linh was on hand to tap in from close range, giving Vietnam a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Borussia Dortmund regrouped in the second period and managed to pull a goal back late in the half. Despite the hosts’ efforts, Vietnam maintained composure and controlled the tempo, ensuring their lead remained comfortable heading into the final stage of the game.
The third period saw more attacking flair from the young Vietnamese players. Ha Yen Nhi showcased her sharp instincts, darting into the box to meet a cross and slot home Vietnam’s fifth goal. Dortmund responded with another consolation strike, but it was Yen Nhi again who sealed the result, scoring her second of the match to complete a 6-2 triumph for Vietnam.
The emphatic win provided a significant morale boost for coach Okiyama’s squad. More importantly, it offered a valuable opportunity for the entire roster to gain experience against a European youth academy side renowned for its structured development programs and competitive environment.
“This victory is less about the scoreline and more about the confidence and lessons the players will take forward,” a team representative shared after the match. “Every player had the chance to test themselves in a high-intensity environment, which is exactly what we need ahead of our upcoming continental qualifiers.”
For Vietnam, the German training camp is a crucial part of preparations for the 2026 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. Facing quality opponents such as Borussia Dortmund U17 and Werder Bremen U17 will help sharpen their tactical understanding, physical readiness, and team cohesion.
With their first friendly match ending on a high note, Vietnam’s young talents are expected to continue their development during the remainder of the two-week training program in Germany, laying the foundation for success in future international competitions.
