Hanoi FC part ways with coach Makoto Teguramori

Hanoi, 16 September, 2025 – According to multiple sources, Hanoi FC have officially parted ways with Japanese coach Makoto Teguramori following a disappointing run of results at the start of the 2025-2026 season.

The decision comes after Hanoi FC collected only one point from their opening three V.League matches, leaving them second from bottom in the standings. Despite being tipped as title contenders, the capital side failed to deliver, suffering defeats to Ho Chi Minh City Police FC (1-2) and Hanoi Police FC (2-4), along with a goalless draw against Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

Adding to their struggles, Hanoi FC were also eliminated from the LPBank Securities National Cup 2025-2026 at the very first hurdle, losing 0-1 at home to arch-rivals The Cong Viettel. The combination of poor league form and early cup elimination ultimately sealed Teguramori’s fate.

At present, the club has not officially named a permanent replacement. However, it is widely expected that Yusuke Adachi, Hanoi FC’s Technical Director, will step in as interim head coach while the board searches for a long-term successor.

Makoto Teguramori, born in 1967, took charge of Hanoi FC in the second half of the 2024-2025 season. He guided the team to a V.League runners-up finish, raising hopes that he could restore the club’s dominance in Vietnamese football. His appointment was seen as a major step forward for Hanoi FC, given his extensive coaching background in Japan, including stints with Vegalta Sendai and Japan’s U23 national team.

However, the new campaign has highlighted the unforgiving nature of Vietnam’s top flight. With expectations always high for one of the nation’s most successful clubs, Teguramori’s inability to spark a turnaround quickly led to his dismissal.

This marks the first managerial change of the 2025-2026 V.League season, underlining once again the intense pressure and high performance standards in Vietnamese football. Hanoi FC, who boast one of the deepest squads in the league with stars such as Nguyen Van Quyet and Nguyen Hai Long, will now aim to regroup and salvage their campaign under new leadership.

The departure of Teguramori not only signals a reset for Hanoi FC but also serves as a reminder of how results-driven the V.League has become. Clubs with rich traditions and ambitious fanbases are quick to demand change when success does not arrive. For Hanoi FC, the focus now shifts to stabilizing their form and climbing back into contention, starting with their upcoming fixtures.
