Hanoi, 1st January 2026 – Vietnamese football wrapped up 2025 on a high note, filled with pride and emotion. On the official FIFA World Cup page, under the management of FIFA, a special visual recap was published highlighting the most memorable moments of Vietnamese football in 2025.
“Looking back at 2025: Being Vietnamese,” the FIFA World Cup page wrote, accompanying the message with a series of iconic images celebrating Vietnam’s national teams throughout the year. The tribute reflected global recognition of a year in which Vietnamese football consistently made headlines across Southeast Asia and beyond.
The recap opened with Vietnam’s ASEAN Cup triumph at the start of the year, alongside the impressive regional debut of Nguyen Xuan Son, who quickly became one of the most talked-about players in Southeast Asian football. That early success provided strong momentum, setting the tone for a remarkable 2025 campaign.

From there, Vietnamese football continued to collect silverware and accolades. The men’s U23 team lifted the U23 Southeast Asian Championship trophy, while the U22 side claimed the gold medal at SEA Games 33. The women’s futsal national team also etched their names into history by winning SEA Games gold, becoming the first team outside Thailand to do so.
FIFA’s image series also featured Nguyen Xuan Son’s return in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, particularly the match against Laos, where he once again found the net. His presence and scoring ability reinforced his reputation as a “nightmare” opponent for teams across the region.
Looking ahead, Vietnamese football is set for an even busier 2026, with at least nine international tournaments on the calendar. Beyond the seven continental finals already secured through qualification, Vietnam will play its final Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Malaysia in March, before turning attention to the 2026 Asian Games.
The new year will begin immediately with continental challenges. U23 Vietnam will open their campaign at the AFC U23 Asian Cup finals in January, followed shortly by the national futsal team’s appearance at the Asian futsal championship. With momentum firmly on their side, Vietnamese football enters 2026 carrying confidence, ambition, and growing respect on the Asian stage.
